The Best Park Bike Repair Stand PCS-10 for the Home Mechanic-FREE SHIPPING
73Why I Like the Park Tool Bike Repair Stand
The bike repair stand is a money saver. To start with, I have saved time and money from repairing the drywall in my living room. I had been propping my bike against the wall and flipping it over when I needed to adjust the derailleurs, the breaks, or change the tires. Since I got the bike stand, I have been able to clean it a lot better by placing it in the stand and letting the stand do the work for me. I am a little older than the average biker and a single parent so having the “extra set of hands” is nice. And I don’t dread the tasks quite so much as before.
I didn’t know much about bike stands until I set out to buy one for myself. When I started looking, it took me a long time to figure out which model to purchase because of the different features each use. I did know that I wanted a bike repair stand that would save me money and time. Using the bike to commute to work, I was tired of taking my bike to the shop for maintenance. After a lengthy search, I chose to go with Park Tool’s PCS-10. They call it a Home Mechanic Repair Stand. I guess I will eventually learn to do some of the more detailed mechanic work in order to save more time. However, for now I plan to make my life easier with it when I make those adjustments. Before the new year is out I will learn to true my own wheels!
- I have a demonstration video below of how easy this repair stand is!
I Found Out Why Most Cyclist Choose the PCS-10
Most cyclists are like me, use the bike for recreation and commuting to work. We just don’t need the high dollar professional repair stands that most shops use. Simply put, the PCS-10 bike repair stand was in my price range and that is what made me look at it initially. However, it doesn’t matter how low cost an item is if it won’t do the job. So I looked at the features and compared them to other models.
My cousin, Cindy has a bike stand that she purchased from a second hand shop. She saved a lot of money but know the bike stand is just sitting in the corner under a pile of clothes. It will not clamp her bike. So this is the first feature I checked out when considering a repair stand. The different stands had different ways to clamp the bike into position. I wanted something quick and simple. There were some repair stands that required turning a screw to secure the clamp against the bike and then loosen it again. This doesn’t sound too bad but it is awkward when you try to hold the bike in place and turn the screw. Another stand didn’t really lock the bike down. Instead the bike just set on top and was held on by a bottom bracket. This might work out for someone doing other kinds of work, but my primary concern was the adjustments and cleaning—all of which require me to reach the underside of the bike and this stand makes the underside harder to reach. Yuk!
The home mechanic repair stand by Park Tool that I like, and eventually purchased, is called the PCS-10. The clamp has a lever that pushes or pulls. It is very nice because I can hold the bike up with one hand and push the lever with the other. It is so simple and I don’t have to wait until help arrives.
Showed Ex He Doesn’t Know Everything!
Now the PCS-10 does only have two legs instead of the tripod. To tell you the truth, I didn’t realize the tripod style is considered sturdier until I took the bike repair stand home and my ex came over. He criticized it right away for having only two legs. I hadn’t had any problems so of course he had to prove his point. He bumped my bike and knocked it around. I was upset at first, but you can imagine how I laughed at him when the stand and bike stayed firmly in position! Park Tool has set the two legs at perfect angles to stand up to any tripod version out there and the floor space is better with the two leg design!
Park Tool does make a PCS-9 Home Mechanic Repair Stand but the 10 has upgrades that make it faster and easier to take down and set up. I am at a point where ease and peace of mind mean a lot so I appreciate the features of the PCS-10 and decided to go with it.
Technical Details:
- Clamp accommodates tubes 7/8” to 3” with adjustable jaws.
- Height adjusts between 39 to 57 inches (99cm to 145cm).
- Easy portability at a folding size of only 41” (104cm)- great for storing.
What other people are saying:
I looked on Amazon and found out I am not alone in selecting the PCS-10 by Park Tool as the best choice. The customer rating on there (by people who own and use the PCS-10) is a solid 5. Other people had the following points to make:
Customers tend to like the cam-type clamp, the height adjustment is quick release and the sliding yolk that is the secret to the extra stability and the ease of set up.
For people who worry about construction , the composite tope tube seemed to be the best feature because it allowed for solid locking and a smooth rotation.
Another feature that sold me was the paper towel holder, I know don’t laugh. It is like looking at the number of cup holders a car has before buying one. The paper towel holder was not the selling point but it is nice to have. Ask for part number PTH-1, you’ll be able to install this yourself.
Recumbent owners and bikes with odd tubing shapes find the PCS-10 a good repair stand to work with.
